About the project

The project owner rented roughly 35Ha of vineyards dedicated to “Vinho Verde” in “Ponte de Lima” in the heart of the “Vinho Verde” region. 32 Ha are planted with “Loureiro”, a typical white wine grape of the region and 3 Ha of “Vinhão”, a red wine grape also typical in the region. The project owner has been working with wine since he was very young, working in the large vineyard his father was responsible for until he went to university.

He feels that growing and producing wine is his calling, so he started his own production 7 years ago, right after he finished his agronomy degree. Since then he has slowly invested in optimizing production, as he sees this strategy as a key factor to become more competitive in the market. This investment was reflected both in the automation of several processes and the implementation of integrated farming methods (fully implemented in 10Ha of vineyard at the moment).

The purpose of this loan is in line with his strategy of investment in the optimization of the vineyard processes, and the funds will be used to acquire specialized prunning and shredding machines. The project owner explores the vineyards together with his brother, hiring the necessary local workers in the seasons where work is more intense, as is the common practice in the region. The project owner sells a part of his grapes to large wine producers, but also has his dedicated production with his own brand, registered in the “Comissão dos Vinhos Verdes” (State entity that regulates the “Vinho Verde” region).
